Discover Pemba

Wild, remote & beautifully untouched.

Pemba is the quieter, greener side of the Zanzibar Archipelago, an island of tropical forest, mangrove-lined shores, coral reefs and small fishing communities. Far less developed for tourism than Zanzibar, it offers a completely different experience: slower, wilder and wonderfully peaceful.

Life on Pemba still moves at a human pace, shaped more by tides, sunlight and shared time. Known as the Green Island, Pemba feels deeply connected to nature. The scent of clove trees drifts through its lush interior, while hidden coves, untouched coastline and clear waters create a sense of remoteness that's increasingly rare. It is a place to slow down, disconnect and experience the Indian Ocean at its most unspoiled.

Exploring Pemba by catamaran gives you access to remote islands, secluded beaches and quiet anchorages that are best reached from the water.

PLACES TO DISCOVER

FUNDU & NJAO

The waters around Fundu and Njao are made for slowing down and enjoying the ocean. Snorkel in clear water above colourful coral reefs, keep an eye out for dolphins, and wake to beautiful sunrises over the sea. Along the way, you may also meet local fishermen and, when available, buy freshly caught fish and seafood directly from them.

NGEZI RAINFOREST

Ngezi Forest Reserve is one of the last remaining indigenous rainforests in the Zanzibar Archipelago. Walk beneath a dense tropical canopy and discover rare plants, endemic birds and the Pemba flying fox - a remarkable fruit bat found only on Pemba.

A guided forest walk offers a completely different side of the island, away from the water and deep into Pemba’s lush interior.

PEMBA'S MANGROVES

Explore another side of the island aboard a traditional ngalawa, a local boat made from a tree trunk. Travel through Pemba's mangrove forests and stop at a village along the way - an opportunity to see rural island life and learn more about local people and customs.

JOMBE

Jombe takes you into the remote southern waters of Pemba, where small islands and islets are scattered among shallow turquoise water, sandbanks and secluded beaches.

It is a beautiful area for slow sailing, swimming and snorkelling, with very little tourism and a wonderful sense of being far away from the usual routes.

MISALI ISLAND

Just off Pemba’s west coast, Misali Island combines white-sand beaches, indigenous coastal forest and beautiful coral reefs. Snorkel in clear water, relax on the beach, walk through the forest and look out for vervet monkeys and other wildlife.

Misali forms part of a protected conservation area, making it a place to discover slowly and responsibly.

WHY DISCOVER PEMBA BY CATAMARAN?

Many of Pemba’s most beautiful places lie along remote stretches of coastline or around small offshore islands. A catamaran gives you the freedom to reach them directly from the water, stay in peaceful anchorages and experience several sides of the island without returning to the same place each day.

No fixed schedule. No crowded excursions. Just the freedom to discover Pemba at your own pace.
